Depression and Homeopathy

Depression is a clinical condition that adversely affects the way a person thinks, feels, and behaves. In today’s times, we are more aware of the concepts of mental health and hence, come across more and more cases of depression and other mental and emotional illnesses like mood disorders, anxiety neurosis, behavioral problems, etc. A lot of factors predispose us to such conditions and determine the state of our mental health. To name a few:

  1. A overtly competitive environment

  2. Unfulfilled desires

  3. Dissatisfying relationships

  4. Performance pressures

  5. Societal Pressures

  6. Family history

  7. Long term emotional stress

  8. Childhood emotional trauma

In most cases, depression and other psychological illnesses do not have a single cause. It results from a mix of factors i.e. genetic predisposition, emotionally challenging experiences, current life circumstances and much more. Like most psychological conditions, clinical depression has complex interacting biological, psychological, social, and environmental contributing factors.

The incidence of depression is seen in all age groups but is increasing in teenagers owing to increased stress of coping with studies, the pressures of the world of social media coupled with hormonal changes occurring during that stage of life. Depression is also commonly seen in women post child-birth due to hormonal changes. Genetic factors also play an important role in triggering depression in a person.

Signs and Symptoms of depression:

  1. Constant feeling of sadness irrespective of the company.

  2. Thoughts or attempts of suicide.

  3. Helplessness and Hopelessness.

  4. Loss of interest in daily activities such as hobbies, social activities, or sex.

  5. Appetite or weight changes.

  6. Sleeping disorders: Either insomnia or oversleeping.

  7. Irritability.

  8. Loss of energy: Fatigue and sluggishness.

  9. Self-loathing: Feeling of worthlessness or guilt.

  10. Concentration Issues: Trouble focusing or remembering things.

In the initial stages, in the milder forms depression can go unidentified until its implications become too obvious. People often overlook it as a mere “low mood” assuming it to be a part of their psychological makeup. Even families and spouses start accommodating accordingly, thereby making it difficult to identify depression.

Homeopathy for Depression:

The best part of homeopathic treatment is that long term use of Homeopathic remedies leads to no damage to the body. They do not cause any sedation or addiction, thereby not hampering the normal functioning of the person’s daily life and are practically free of side effects (when taken under the guidance of a qualified Homeopath). Homeopathic medicines not only help in treating the illness but also help to support the patient emotionally and physically in a holistic way. A detailed understanding of the behavior of a person; his/her complete biological and genetic make-up, past and existing medical conditions, the life-space, etc. is studied by the Homeopath and a remedy is chosen based on this complete picture.

Whether unidentified, early stage or full blown, Homeopathy is a great form of a natural treatment for clinical depression without much side effects from the medication.

It is always recommended to consult a qualified Homeopath and not self-medicate; it requires a great amount of skill and training to identify the correct remedy for each individual patient and the corresponding potency (power and dosage) of the medicines that may be suitable for that person.
